In September 2014, 3M Library Systems and the Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA) partnered to generate awareness for the new availability of thousands of eBooks at Twin Cities area libraries, lendable through the 3M Cloud Library system.
To spread the word, Karwoski & Courage organized and facilitated an event to set the record for the most eReader devices used on public transit. Along with morning commuters, a number of individuals from the community, 3M, and media met at the new Twin Cities Green Line light rail to take a short ride from the Minnesota State Capital to Central Station in downtown St. Paul. Riders read titles from the 3M Cloud Library on their eReaders, establishing the record.
Pioneer Press technology reporter Julio Ojeda-Zapata reported:
3M is hoping its new app will accelerate book lending. The app’s revised interface makes it easier for library patrons to browse book categories at random, and stumble on books they want to read. Users will be able to sort titles into customized categories, and to flag their favorite kinds of content.
3M workers on Thursday celebrated their app’s imminent release, and the adding of the Hennepin County Library system to their 3M Cloud Library fold, by piling onto a Green Line light-rail train while brandishing iPads, Nook e-book readers and other compatible devices for a short ride to the St Paul Public Library’s Central branch, where doughnuts, bagels and other goodies awaited.
In addition to securing media coverage, we managed the photography and videography for the event, which was later used for a contest promotion and in press outreach.
We continue to build on the media momentum, with 3M Library Systems rolling out their new 3M Cloud Library app along with eAudiobooks in libraries nationwide in October.
