Though the Google Fonts site has been around for awhile, it just got an overhaul that makes it easier and much more fun to use.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Google Font hosts more than 800 font families that you can use at no cost. Let’s take a tour.
How To Use Google Fonts In 6 Incredibly Easy Steps
1) Font Discovery
The new layout allows you to search for and then preview fonts side-by-side.
2) Customize Copy To Display Fonts
All of that is cool but not particularly helpful if you can’t see compare fonts using your own custom text. No, problem. Google Fonts has got that covered. Click on the text of an individual font and type in your own copy, then click Apply To All to see that copy side-by-side using different fonts.
3) Compare Fonts
Viola! Now you can compare which fonts will work best for your particular project.

4) Adjust Fonts
Adjust the options to your heart’s delight. As you can see, you can filter by font type by checking the Categories boxes on the right-hand sidebar. You can also use slider bars to adjust the number of styles, the thickness, slant and width of fonts and the layout grid will adjust accordingly.
5) Font Backgrounds
You can see what your fonts look like with a light or dark background by using the background fill tool in the upper right-hand corner.
6) Embed Or Download Fonts
Finally, select the fonts you wish to use and Google Fonts gives you the option to use embed code to include the fonts on your site or you can download the actual fonts to your computer for offline use. (We used the Permanent Marker and Rock Salt fonts for our headlines on this post.)
