Twitter recently announced the release of a Collections API that lets you to turn multiple tweets into a single, graphically-rich story with one Collection. Twitter Collections are a feature of TweetDeck that allows you to create your own custom timeline of hand-selected tweets.
How To Create A Twitter Collection To Embed Using TweetDeck & Twitter Publish In 12 Easy Steps
1) Log into TweetDeck
TweetDeck is Twitter‘s social media management tool (and by social media, we mean Twitter; it doesn’t let you manage competitor accounts) for following your stream, Tweeting, Favoriting, replying, retweeting, DMing, scheduling, creating Lists, and, most importantly for our purposes, creating Collections.
Twitter Collections are timelines you create to include only those tweets you choose. If you’ve yet to use TweetDeck, no matter; it’s pretty easy and I’ll take you to the process of creating a Collection step by step. The first step, though, is to log into TweetDeck using your Twitter credentials.

2) Add A Column In TweetDeck
After you’ve logged into TweetDeck, look at the left-hand side of your screen where you’ll find a row of icons, one of which is a plus sign. Click the plus sign to choose Add column:
3) Choose The Collections Column Type
You will get a pop-up screen that looks like this. Choose the Collections column type in the lower right corner.
4) Create A Twitter Collection
The next screen lets you create your Collection or edit an existing one. Click the blue Create Collection button.
5) Title Your Twitter Collection
After your create your Collection, you’ll want to give it a title. Collections will be public and findable by search engines, so you might want to think about what keywords you use for search engine optimization purposes. Add a description as well.
6) Create Your Tweet Stream
Created a new column using the Search type and filtering by tweets containing the keywords for which you want to find content. We used the #Vikings hashtag. Now we’re ready to add some victory tweets!
7) Refine Your Tweet Stream
Eh, not quite.
As you can see from the example above, several of the tweets in our stream using the #Vikings hashtag aren’t very useful:
- A Halloween-related one,
- A weight-loss related tweet, and
- One about rugby. Rugby!
Your time is precious, so you’ll want to refine your search to give you the most relevant options.
To do that, click the sliders icon in the upper right-hand corner of your tweet stream column. From there you’ll have plenty of options to get more relevant results. In our case, we filtered for Verified Users, figuring that would restrict tweets to those from media and reporters, Vikings players, and official organizational accounts.
8) Add Tweets To Your Collection
Now you can drag and drop the tweets you want from your tweet stream column into your Collections column by grabbing the four-pointed arrow icon in the bottom right corner of the tweet you want to add and dragging it over.
9) Use The Twitter Publish Tool
After you’ve got all the tweets you want to include in your Collection, save it and then click on the double slider icon of your Collection and then click on the Share icon. That gives you the option to Embed your collection.
Clicking on Embed collection will take you to the Twitter Publish tool.
10) Preview Your Twitter Collection Grid
Click the next arrow and you’ll get a preview of what your Twitter Collection grid will look like along with the ability to grab the embed code.
11) Copy & Paste Your Twitter Collection Embed Code
Finally, by clicking the Copy Code button you’ll get a popup screen where you can copy your embed code to paste into your site.
12) Behold, The Glorious Twitter Collection Grid
And here’s the end result, in all its glory. The Twitter Collection is responsive, so it will adjust to the size of the screen viewing it. (If you are viewing this on a desktop computer, resize your browser and you’ll see how the grid adjusts to the screen size.)
The tweets in the grid are live, so you can click on them to visit the actual tweet, you can Favorite it, and click on any links within those tweets.
