YouTube is the second most popular search engine behind only it’s owner, Google. And given that video consumption is rising inexorably, this medium is likely in your communications future if it is not already.
One very cool tool YouTube has been offering for several years but is kinda buried if you don’t know where to look for it is the YouTube Trends Dashboard.
The Trends Dashboard gives you insight into what videos are the most viewed at any given time:
Now you can easily see which videos are among the most popular worldwide. Even better, though, is the ability to slice and dice the videos. You can, for example, look at the most shared videos by a particular audience, in this case the most-shared videos by 45-54 year old women living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area:
Even better, you can run comparisons among different audiences and find common or unique videos:
Lastly, the YouTube Trends Dashboard also gives you a map view to visualize trending videos by geography:
This is a great tool for gaining insight into what video content might resonate with your target audiences, as a media-planing tool for identifying the type of video content you might want to target for video ad campaigns, as well as to learn what kinds of video get shared on social channels by your target audiences.
